What is Lifeworklife for?

LifeWorklife is for people who want to work a different way - using all their skills and being in charge of their time.  Also it is for organisations that want to hire in a different way, taking people on as they need them and developing relationships with their workforce.  They can continue to manage this work force as the organisation grows and the people develop.

Why did you start this site?

The original idea came from Kirsten Hemingway Arnold.  Kirsten ran a ‘traditional’ company with employees.  She started had a family and wanted to continue to run her company. So she changed her company to a virtual organisation which gave her more flexibility and free time to spend with her children.
Other ‘parents’ were working for employers and she saw them under stress as they tried to manage their work life balance around the constraints of employers and childminders.  Coping and making arrangements for children and family in order to do a few hours audio-typing did not look like a life!  Kirsten looked at why she had been so lucky and realised that her time was her own.  Although she continued to have customer deadlines to meet and things that needed to be done, she could decide when to do them and still had time to spend with her family.
LifeWorklife is based on her experience.

What is different about LifeworkLife?

Firstly, it is based on the idea that when you have found a good team - even though you may not need them all the time - you want to stay in touch with them.  There is no recruitment company in the middle of the transaction; so the organisations and people can take responsibility for their own relationship.  There is nothing to pay but the subscription.  There are no photos so that you can only be judged on your skills.  It takes time to set up your accounts and adverts but once done, they can easily be repeated and accessed.  This site not a one hit wonder, your team are assigned and maintained for as long as you need them – and when you need them. You can have as many jobs or profiles as you need. You can include any skill you have.

Why do I have to pay to use Lifeworklife?

We noticed that many free sites don’t survive because it is easy to set up information and then leave and never re-visit.  If something has to be paid for, you are more likely to use it.  Paying confirms - to a degree - that you exist and that you have a bank account.  LifeWorklife only want to advertise items that will be useful to members, therefore, we did not want to be dependant on advertising for our revenue.  Our aim is to help people and organisations to develop and grow – we don’t want to sell ad space.

Who are the people behind the site?

Kirsten Hemingway Arnold has been joined by a group of experienced businessmen and women from a variety of market sectors.  They have all run successful companies and together they constitute a Main Board of professionals of all ages.

Who is Gran?

Gran is amazing; she can turn her hand to anything.  Gran used to be a Hollywood stunt woman but having retired she has decided that she still wants to stay active.  Gran uses LifeWorklife to get work - if you have an interesting job for Gran then send the support team a message.  There are some examples of her work at www.youtube.co.uk/lifeworklife

What are the SOC codes?

The SOC’s are Standard Classifications used for giving nationally agreed titles to jobs and skills.

Why did you use the SOC codes?

Our site will work by volume and we want to make the searches as specific as possible.  Therefore we are basing your roles on the SOC codes - it means that there will not be thousands of people in every category when there are millions of people on the site.  It’s a professional and fairer way of doing things.

How do I set up an Account?

Click on a button, put in your master details. When you revisit, go and add your skills (those that you need to use or those that you have) under the sector profiles tab.  (We will be come up with snappier titles for these shortly).  When you have chosen your sectors go back and edit them. You will be able to add information about skills and experience (that you need or that you have).  The account set-up process is basic and simple.

What details can other people using the site see?

Only those that you allow them to see.  All transactions are done by the site and your contact details are never given to other users.

Why do we get to rate each other?

Feedback is important - we want you to be positive about the organisations or about the person.  You can select the feedback you display, but your rating is calculated by the site.

What do we do if we feel a service was poor?

We suggest in the first instance, you talk to the person or organisation and come up with a solution together.
